Founded in 1795, it is the oldest New York university chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. The urban campus covers 120 lush acres, including several acres of formal gardens. Proctor’s Theatre is one of Upstate’s greatest live entertainment venues. Located in the very heart of downtown Schenectady, Proctors is a 1926 vaudeville show palace that has recently undergone a total renovation. Proctor’s is now one of the largest theaters in Upstate (3,500 capacity) and one of the few that can handle the largest touring Broadway acts. The extravagant chandelier over the main floor has nearly 200 individual lamps. Admire the GE sign in the “Electric City”, General Electric once employed thousands in the city at a massive sprawling corporate campus. The largest electric corporate sign in America, it consists of 1,400 individual lights and each letter is more than 10-feet tall. The Rivers Casino located along the Mohawk River has brought housing and businesses to the Schenectady area.
